Ranipuram Trek
Ranipuram, often called the Ooty of Kerala, is the highest region of Kasaragod district. A trail through shola forest and rolling grassland leads to the hilltop, with wildflowers, misty moors and views across North Kerala.
Highlights
- Shola forest and open grasslands
- Wildflowers, orchids and rich birdlife
- Wide views from the hilltop
- Easy access for a day trip in North Kerala
How to reach
The trek begins near Panathady, about 43 km from Kanhangad. The nearest railway stations are Kanhangad and Kasaragod.
Best time to go
Late June to January is the usual season. The monsoon is beautiful but makes the trail harder and slippery.
Permits & entry
An entry ticket is needed at the forest check post. DTPC and private stays are available near the base.
Trail tips
- Start in the morning to return before evening
- Carry water, as sources on the trail are limited
- Expect leeches in the monsoon
