Kolukkumalai Sunrise Trek
Kolukkumalai is famous for its sunrise above the clouds and for tea estates that are among the highest in the world. The hill sits just inside Tamil Nadu, but the only practical route up is from Suryanelli on the Kerala side, near Munnar.

How to reach
Drive from Munnar to Suryanelli, about 35 km. From there only permitted 4x4 jeeps go up the rough track. Aim to reach Suryanelli by around 4 AM for the sunrise.
Best time to go
Post-monsoon and winter bring the most dependable sunrises. Monsoon brings mist and slippery tracks.
Permits & entry
There is no separate trek permit for the viewpoint. The jeep ride is the main cost, and it is best booked in advance on weekends and holidays.
