Illikkal Kallu Trek
Illikkal Kallu is a giant rock formation on Illikkal Mala in eastern Kottayam. Three hills, each around 4,000 feet, make up the range: Kuda Kallu, Koonu Kallu and Illikkal Kallu, linked by a narrow ridge called Narakapalam.
Highlights
- Huge monolith with a dramatic split face
- Misty valley views, and the Arabian Sea on very clear days
- Short climb with railings on steep sections
- Easy add-on with Ilaveezhapoonchira and nearby waterfalls
How to reach
Illikkal Kallu is about 57 km from Kottayam railway station, via Erattupetta and Teekoy. Vehicles can reach the parking area near the top.
Best time to go
Post-monsoon and winter offer the clearest views. Avoid it during storms and heavy rain, as the hilltop is exposed.
