Travel Today, Pay Tomorrow Kerala: Complete Guide to Kerala’s New Travel EMI Scheme

Want to explore Kerala now and pay for your trip later?

Kerala has introduced Travel Today, Pay Tomorrow (T2PT), a new tourism financing initiative from the Kerala Forest Development Corporation (KFDC) that could allow eligible travellers to book selected tourism experiences without paying the entire amount upfront.

Instead, eligible travellers can use financing from participating banks and repay the amount in instalments.

The initiative has been introduced alongside SHOLA Workation, Kerala’s new “work from nature” experience at destinations including Gavi and Suryanelli near Munnar.

Here’s everything you need to know about the new Travel Today, Pay Tomorrow scheme.

Update: Travel Today, Pay Tomorrow Is Now Showing on KFDC Bookings

We checked the KFDC online booking system and found the “Travel Today Pay Tomorrow” option appearing directly on the payment screen for a tent booking.

At checkout, KFDC displayed two payment choices — the regular payment option and Travel Today Pay Tomorrow.

This means the T2PT option has started appearing in KFDC’s live online booking flow, rather than being only an announced initiative.

Note: Availability may depend on the destination, package, accommodation, travel date and financing eligibility. Seeing the option at checkout does not necessarily mean financing will be approved.

What is Travel Today, Pay Tomorrow?

Travel Today, Pay Tomorrow, also known as T2PT, is a tourism financing initiative introduced by the Kerala Forest Development Corporation.

The concept is simple:

Travel now → Pay the eligible trip cost in instalments later.

Instead of paying the complete cost of an eligible tourism package upfront, travellers may be able to finance the booking through a participating bank.

KFDC has also taken official steps towards implementing the programme, including inviting travel partners for the Travel Today, Pay Tomorrow scheme.

How Does Travel Today, Pay Tomorrow Work?

Here’s how the option currently appears in KFDC’s online booking process.

1. Choose an Eligible Tourism Package

Select a tourism package currently covered under the T2PT programme.

The first phase is reported to include seven destinations operated by KFDC.

2. Choose the Travel Today, Pay Tomorrow Option

Ask KFDC whether T2PT financing is available for your selected package and travel dates.

3. Apply for Financing

Eligible travellers can apply through a participating financial institution.

Axis Bank is currently reported as a banking partner, while additional banks may be added later.

4. Get the Applicable Discount

A minimum 10% booking discount has been reported for eligible bookings under the programme.

For example, the ₹14,000 SHOLA Workation package has been reported with a ₹1,400 discount under the financing arrangement.

5. Travel

Once your booking and financing are approved, you can take your trip as scheduled.

6. Repay in Instalments

The financed amount is then repaid according to the repayment schedule agreed with the participating bank.

Is Travel Today, Pay Tomorrow Interest-Free?

Reports indicate that KFDC intends to facilitate interest-free financing through participating banks.

However, this does not necessarily mean that every traveller, package or repayment tenure will automatically qualify for zero-interest financing.

Before accepting the financing option, check:

  • Interest rate
  • Processing charges
  • Total repayment amount
  • EMI amount
  • Repayment tenure
  • Late-payment charges
  • Cancellation conditions
  • Refund procedure
  • Loan eligibility requirements

Always compare the total amount payable — not just the monthly EMI.

Which Bank Offers the Kerala Travel EMI Scheme?

Axis Bank is currently reported as a banking partner for the Travel Today, Pay Tomorrow initiative.

KFDC is also reportedly discussing participation with other banks.

However, having an Axis Bank account does not necessarily mean automatic eligibility.

Financing approval may depend on the bank’s eligibility and verification requirements.

Which Destinations Are Included?

The first phase of Travel Today, Pay Tomorrow is reported to cover seven destinations operated by KFDC.

A complete consumer-facing list of all seven destinations along with package-specific financing conditions has not yet been clearly published on KFDC’s public pages.

Because the scheme is new, we recommend confirming whether your preferred destination and package are currently eligible before planning your trip.

SHOLA Workation: Work From the Forest in Kerala

Alongside Travel Today, Pay Tomorrow, KFDC has also introduced an interesting new tourism concept called SHOLA Workation.

SHOLA stands for:

Seek – Hike – Observe – Lodge – Absorb

The concept combines remote work with a stay surrounded by Kerala’s forests and mountains.

Instead of working from your house, office or café, you can potentially open your laptop from the middle of nature.

🌿 Planning a forest workation in Kerala?

We’ve put together a complete guide covering SHOLA Workation locations, facilities, internet connectivity, pricing and what to expect.

The first SHOLA Workation locations are:

Gavi, Pathanamthitta

Gavi is one of Kerala’s best-known forest tourism destinations, surrounded by evergreen forests and wildlife-rich landscapes.

The new workation programme makes it possible to combine remote work with a forest stay and nature experiences.

Suryanelli, Idukki

Suryanelli is located in the high ranges near Munnar.

Surrounded by tea estates, mountains and the Western Ghats, it offers a completely different work environment from the typical office or city.

How Much Does SHOLA Workation Cost?

The introductory package has been reported at:

₹14,000 + Applicable Taxes

For a room accommodating up to two guests.

Duration: 4 Days / 3 Nights

For two people sharing, that works out to approximately:

₹7,000 Per Person + Taxes

Under the reported T2PT financing arrangement, the ₹14,000 package can receive a ₹1,400 discount, subject to the applicable terms.

What Does the SHOLA Workation Include?

The workation programme is designed to provide the basic infrastructure needed for remote work while staying close to nature.

Reported facilities and experiences include:

  • High-speed internet
  • Dedicated working spaces
  • Discussion spaces
  • Additional power outlets
  • Power backup
  • Outdoor working areas
  • Accommodation
  • Meals
  • Unlimited tea
  • Locally produced coffee
  • Guided nature experiences

Depending on the destination and package, guests may also be able to experience activities such as nature walks, boating, birdwatching and stargazing.

How Fast is the Internet?

This is probably the first question most remote workers will ask.

At Gavi, connectivity has reportedly been established through BSNL with speeds of up to approximately:

100 Mbps

At Suryanelli, reported connectivity reaches approximately:

500 Mbps

Power backup has also reportedly been arranged.

Actual internet speed can naturally vary depending on network and local conditions.

Who is SHOLA Workation Best For?

The concept could be particularly interesting for:

  • Remote employees
  • Software professionals
  • Freelancers
  • Designers
  • Writers
  • Content creators
  • Startup founders
  • Small teams
  • Digital nomads
  • Anyone wanting a few working days away from the city

Imagine finishing your meetings and stepping straight outside into the Western Ghats.

How Many People Can Stay?

SHOLA appears to be deliberately designed as a relatively small-scale nature experience.

Gavi

4 duplex rooms

Capacity: approximately 8 guests

Suryanelli

3 rooms

Capacity: approximately 6 guests

Because capacity is limited, popular dates could fill quickly.

Questions to Ask Before Booking

Because this involves travel financing, don’t confirm the booking based only on the advertised EMI amount.

Ask these questions first:

  1. Is my selected package eligible for T2PT?
  2. Which bank is financing the booking?
  3. Is the financing actually interest-free?
  4. Is there a processing fee?
  5. What documents are required?
  6. What is the repayment tenure?
  7. What will my monthly EMI be?
  8. What is the total amount I will repay?
  9. What happens if I cancel the trip?
  10. What happens to the financing if KFDC cancels the trip?
  11. Is the reported 10% discount applicable to my package?
  12. Are taxes included in the financed amount?

Get these details confirmed before making your payment.

Should You Travel on EMI?

Just because you can finance a holiday doesn’t necessarily mean you should.

Travel Today, Pay Tomorrow could be useful when you already intend to make the trip, can comfortably handle the repayments and receive a genuine zero-interest facility or meaningful discount.

But if paying the instalments would put pressure on your monthly budget, saving first and travelling later may be the better choice.

Check the total cost, not just the EMI.

A ₹1,000 or ₹2,000 monthly payment can look attractive, but the important number is the total amount you will eventually repay.

Will the Scheme Expand to More Destinations?

Yes, expansion has been reported as part of the plan.

The initial phase focuses on selected KFDC destinations, but future phases could potentially include additional forest and ecotourism destinations.

There have also been reports about exploring package tours beyond Kerala, including other Indian destinations and potentially international packages.

These should currently be treated as future plans, not as destinations already available through T2PT.

Other New Kerala Forest Tourism Experiences

Travel Today, Pay Tomorrow and SHOLA are part of a broader push towards new nature-based tourism experiences in Kerala.

Another interesting project is a premium pod-stay initiative at Vagamon.

Four accommodation pods have been reported as under construction, with completion targeted for December 2026.

Together, these projects show a move towards smaller, experience-led tourism involving forests, remote work and nature stays.
