Trek to the Heart-Shaped Lake in Kerala

Standing tall at 6,890 feet (2,100 meters) above sea level, Chembra Peak is the highest point in Wayanad and among the tallest in the Western Ghats. Its majestic silhouette can be seen from various parts of the district, making it a landmark for adventure seekers and nature lovers alike.

Located just 8 km south of Kalpetta, near the town of Meppadi, the trek to Chembra begins from Meppadi itself. On the way to the trailhead, trekkers must obtain permission from the Chembra Peak Vana Samrakshana Samithi (VSS), managed by the South Wayanad Forest Division. A guide is also assigned as part of the entry process.

Due to increased wildlife movement, access to the summit of Chembra Peak is currently restricted. However, trekking is still permitted up to the famous heart-shaped lake, known locally as Hridaya Saras, situated approximately 1.5 km below the summit.
